1xEV-DO - cdma2000 Evolution, Data Optimized

a.k.a. cdma2000 1xEV-DO, EV-DO, HRPD, TIA-856, IS 856

A version of cdma2000 specified in TIA-856 (3GPP2 C.S0024) that provides spectrally efficient, high-speed data service. 1xEV-DO was developed to meet the IMT-2000 3G requirement to provide greater than 2Mbps of downlink bandwidth. 1xEV-DO is dedicated to and optimized for data service. It is typically deployed as a complementary data network to a 1xRTT voice network using a separate 1.25MHz channel. Note that while commonly referred to as 1xEV-DO, the name for this technology in TIA standards is High Rate Packet Data (HRPD).

For information on packet data roaming with 1xEV-DO, see CDG Reference Document #136.
