[edit] Discussion

[edit] SMS Partner Qualification Form (PQF)

  • Some reservations were expressed about the level of detail in the form: this may be more than carriers wish to share (particularly regarding billing) without some assurance of confidentiality. We agreed that the PQF can be considered as something that will be shared between carriers only after an NDA is in place. In addition to this, carriers may wish to make some or all of the information available to others without an agreement - they can use the same form and just leave blank those sections they don't wish to answer.
  • Some specific comments were briefly introduced regarding some additional information items and clarification for the form.
    • Action: Verisign (Dave G) to review comments and update form as appropriate.
  • It was suggested that a sample completed form be provided to help guide carriers as to the type of information expected in each question.
    • Action: QC (Daniel) to generate a sample form, pass to Dave G in the first instance to ensure correct interpretation.
  • Carriers agreed that some explanatory notes for the form would be useful, as an appendix or accompanying document (rather than cluttering up the form itself).
    • Action: Verisign (Dave G) to generate some brief notes. The sample answers may go some way towards addressing this.
  • Approval: In addition to the other carriers (Sprint, TNZ & Alltel) that had previously advised that they felt the document was acceptable, Verizon also indicated they were happy with it (subject to the concerns about confidentiality described above). Assume that these carriers will be even more happy after the improvements discussed on this call.

[edit] SMS Test Plan

  • Almost everyone on the call felt that the document was too long. It is intended to be a superset of possible test cases, not all of which would actually be used to test a particular implementation. However, no-one on the call identified any specific information they felt should be removed.
  • Perhaps the issue is more one of structure and usability. The document contains procedural information for each test which while potentially useful to the actual tester, makes the document somewhat unwieldy and difficult to use as a summary of the test results. We discussed some potential improvements such as including a contents page ( 115.gif ) and a summary spreadsheet for recording results.
  • We reviewed the suggestions made by Sprint - they seem like good ideas.
  • Action: QC (Daniel) to make the above updates to the document and recirculate.
  • Action: Carriers to solicit feedback from their testing personnel on the usability or otherwise of the document. (Some carriers have already started this process.)

[edit] SMS Billing Update

  • Those carriers who previously indicated their preference (as a home) to receive CIBER records for SMS have been asked whether they would like the VSWG to address some guidelines for field population when the CIBER record is generated from the SMDPP signaling message (e.g. by the RSP). There seems to be no interest in pursuing this line of work.
  • The billing proposal document has been circulated, and some feedback has been received.
  • Carriers are encouraged to continue their discussions with their MC vendors (perhaps including the above proposal as an input) regarding preferred options for signaling modification. Hopefully we will have some good information back by the face-to-face meeting.

[edit] Face-to-Face Meeting Update

  • Clarified that we did have some time in the agenda for the continuation of the SMS Billing work: this is somewhat incognito as "SMS White Paper followup". Apologies for the confusion.
  • Suggestion that those carrier representatives who have signed up to attend the meeting might benefit from an individual email to summarize the areas on the agenda where we hope to receive the carrier's specific comments.
    • Action: QC (Daniel) to check the current attendee list and arrange contact.

[edit] Next Meeting

Next week we have a conference call scheduled to discuss the PRL tab of the standardized TDS. Refer to VSWG_Meetings for details. That will be the last conference call before the Miami meeting.
