3DES – Triple Data Encryption Standard

a.k.a. Triple DES, TDES, TDEA

Encryption algorithm that involves applying DES three times with different keys. While more computationally expensive than DES, 3DES provides much stronger security. 3DES is recommended as an alternative to DES when establishing VPNs for packet data roaming.
