Bilateral Roaming

Bilateral Roaming
Roaming implemented directly between two operators without using an intermediary such as a RSP or CRX. The benefit of bilateral roaming is that it removes RSP/CRX costs; however, bilateral roaming becomes difficult and complex to maintain as the number of partners increase. As such, even those operators that perform bilateral roaming often only do so with their highest volume roaming partners and still use RSP/CRX providers to facilitate roaming with other partners. Depending on the business case, an operator may use a combination of bilateral and RSP/CRX based roaming; for example, a direct connection could be used with a high volume partner to transport payload while a connection to an RSP/CRX is used to offload data clearing and settlement.
